OMG I can’t believe it when I looked at the calendar. It’s been two months since I last updated, and I have yet to finish blogging my Perth trip. PROCRASTINATION ruled over me. Unfortunately, my old laptop isn’t doing well I can’t turn it on and so all my photos in there couldn’t be edited nor uploaded nor be posted. #killme

Anyway, this would probably be my last post of my Perth trip before I actually recover my photos back from that shitty-old lappy T_T

Ho’oponopono

Tags

The moment I publish this post I guess will be 9/7/14 already. Today I flew to KL to submit my UK visa application, with my dad. Somehow a lot of special things happen – things I should be grateful of. And also I started to have some thoughts for myself as well.

In recent years, my ears ache whenever the plane descends. And that pain can only be lightened by chewing gums or gummy bears, and be totally gone when I’m finally on ground. However today, something miraculous happened to my ears. After my parents shared with me about “Ho’oponopono”, an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness (quoted from Wikipedia) or in other words, “I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.”, I learned to have a thankful heart to everything around me, either living or non-living things. So I would like to share my testimony here: Before the plane started to descend, I told my ears and nose that I love them. I thanked them for helping me balance so that I wouldn’t have an ear ache. I also thanked my nose for behaving nicely to me – not having serious flu, able to breathe normally. Guess what? My ears did not ache for the first time. Not even a slight feeling of discomfort. Maybe to some ‘scientific’ people, my situation was that my ears and nose just happened to be in good condition; but to me, I know myself well enough to believe that Ho’oponopono makes a difference in my life, and I’m experiencing it.

Even if you think it lacks scientific support, but there’s no harm to actually put this kind of ideology into practice, right? Being grateful is always a good thing. It may also help you in your life – being able to see things in a more positive angle, to complain less and to thank what you have in life. I believe that this also links to the Law of Attraction, which I think most of the people now know about it.

What you think will be what is going to happen.

To a certain extent, yes I believe in this. Having lots of positive energy pushes me through hard times in life. Believing that even in the worst situation you face, there’s still hope. You just need to have faith that things will get better, eventually. So, I now keep on reminding myself to be thankful. For eg: to talk good to the water you drink, water you use to take shower, or even the water content in your body. Have you ever heard that water crystallizations and your emotions are connected? This was suggested by Masaru Emoto. It was said that different emotions given or passed on to the water, the crystallizations formed are different. For example:- (photo and information credits here)

After saying “You are disgusting, I want to kill you.”

After giving love and thanks to the water.

These two pictures are clear enough, aren’t they?! There are more on the link I gave above, not an English version but I believe Google will help you out! :) Even two cup of experimenting waters can have such effects, what more to say the water content in our body? Continuously showering my body with loads of good words I believe that I will get healthier and prettier of course HAHA. Having said that it’s connected to the Law of Attraction, if I didn’t at first believe in this ideology, nothing would have happened to me. It is when my mind accepts it, it works for me.

The other thing was that I went to a Buddhist temple near Wisma MCA, there locates the 金身 (gold body/statue) of 宣化上人 (Venerable Master Hua). My father then went in and chanted and prayed to him. Just right after we had our lunch in the temple, he got a call from an unexpected friend, proposing a project that he worked so hard few years back to get it but failed. To me, I think this is the blessings that he received from the chant. He always asks me to chant, since I got explored to the teachings of Buddha at this young age, I should appreciate and make good use of it. I think I should consider his suggestions! HAHA actually I shouldn’t even have a second thought but just do it. I will try my best. Hence another goal for me to achieve!

We were so lucky as we got to meet a monk from Sri Lanka, too! He came all the way from LA to KL just to give blessings to people! It is this spirit of altruism and love that makes Buddhism so great. My father and I got his blessings. When he blessed me, I could feel the heat transferring to my head as if his energy is spared to me. Quite hard for me to describe but I think this is a fate that I was able to meet him in such a tight schedule. Ho’oponopono.

Lastly, I would like you, whoever that comes across this post, try this Ho’oponopono ideology out. It doesn’t matter if you are not a Buddhist. Hope it changes your life bit by bit to the better. May Buddha bless you.

Penang Trip 2013

OH-MAI-GOSH, it was June last year when I went to Penang. And now I’m finally blogging my trip here at my new site! <3 My photos are so nostalgic (though it was just last year)!! Apparently I couldn’t remember much of the details but I will just share my photos here cox my computer is crowded with photos. In case I delete them, I still have them here T__T Since it’s just a 3-day trip I will squeeze everything in just one post.

Somewhere near the hotel. Very pretty right?

Anyway, I think I should part this post into places we visited, and food we ate.

Places:

Penang is definitely known for her street arts hiding in every possible place in the city. We, too must be touristic to find them! So here we go, follow me!

Riding a bicycle and got on a ferry! How cool is that LOLOL !! Actually I think it is quite dangerous to ride a bicycle in Penang. The drivers drive really fast and they normally don’t stop for us :’(.

The next day we went to Batu Feringghi. We took taxi I think. My father introduced this driver to me. He’s quite good and all but I lost his contact number already LOLOL. Before we took a bus up to Batu Feringghi, driver uncle brought us to buy chocolate and coffee. However the places obviously are for tourists: like those tour guide will have some commission for bringing their groups there.

Layered Butter Cake With Orange Cream

Tags

Alright it was my mom’s birthday two days ago, so I decided to make her her favourite cake – butter cake. But one thing is, a simple butter cake looks boring, and doesn’t have the birthday feeling to it.

So, I decided to make ‘my title’.

I tried a few recipes from the Internet and had different results, however most of them cracked and were a little dry until I tried this recipe here. Got it from that blog but the recipe is from Mrs Ng SK. I didn’t follow exactly the same but it is almost similar.

Old butter cake with cracks. But it tastes good!! And I think look not bad too!

Old butter cake with cracks. But it tastes good!! And I think look not bad too!

For the cake:

  1. 227gm unsalted butter  (I used Anchor’s hence 227gm), softened.
  2. 4 medium-sized eggs
  3. 50gm + 150gm sugar
  4. 200gm self-raising flour, sieved
  5. 60ml milk (I used Dutch Lady’s full cream milk)
  6. 1tsp vanilla extract
Ingredients getting themselves ready!

Ingredients getting themselves ready!

  1. Preheat the oven at 180°C. Prepare an 8 inch square pan. Grease the pan.
  2. Separate the yolks and whites. Cream butter and 150gm sugar until thick and fluffy. Add in vanilla extract and mix well. Add in yolks one by one until well incorporated.
  3. Beat egg whites in a dry, oil-free bowl until soft peaks form, gradually add in 50gm sugar and beat till stiff peaks form. Invert the bowl without the content falling and you’re done!
  4. Add in half of flour and mix well with low speed. Add milk in 2 additions and mix till well incorporated. Mix in the remaining flour.
  5. Add half the egg whites into your mixture, mix with slow speed. Fold in the remaining whites.
  6. Pour batter into pan and level.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes until cooked or skewer comes out clean. (I also reduced to 150°C because the top turned brown.)

PS: I do not have electric mixer so I creamed butter first and prepared flour then I beat egg whites.

For the Cream:

  1. Chill a metal bowl and whisk for a while until it is cold enough.
  2. Pour in whipping cream (1 cup of whipping cream makes 2 cups of whipped cream – I found this from many sites Google showed; I personally used like 500ml for this cake below.)
  3. Whip until a little soft and then add sugar and/or flavourings/colours. (I added orange oil like one tsp? I didn’t measure I just poured LOLOL)
  4. Whip till stiff. If you prefer it to hold its shape then beat a little longer, if not just get your desired consistency.

PS: I’m not a professional baker, the above steps for cream are from my trials. TQVM

My moist, fluffy and light butter cake!! Flat top just nice for spreading cream on top!!

My moist, fluffy and light butter cake!! Flat top just nice for spreading cream on top!!

Cut the square into half and then slice them into 4 pieces. Spread cream over each layer and when you reach the top, spread a little thicker. Not to forget the sides, working the same way. I gotta get my hands more stable. I want pretty cakes for my friends and family!!

I still suck at spreading cream so I made some texture to make it the look less awful LOLOL. Failed flowers on the side SO UGLY =.=

We did walk around Perth CBD but without photos I personally couldn’t recall much. I remembered there was a huge cactus statue in town and my aunt told me that costs 2 mil dollars. *gasp*

My memory faded so I have nothing much left for day 2. Shall go on to day 3.

Didn’t manage to take more photos, but there were stalls selling vegetables, fruits, fruit juices (they used glass bottles, I was impressed; not like us here use plastic cup only :P), malay food, western food, ice-cream and etc etc. However everyone was not quite in the right mood that morning I guess cox it was too early.

Then on our way back home, two of my siblings and I played at the park. SWINGS! Couldn’t recall when was the last time I sat on one. Pretty childhood memories eh?

First Visit to Perth, Australia: Part I

27/6/2014 | Friday | Sunny ☀ and Stormy

Note: This is gonna be a picture-spam post! ><

I have not been travelling overseas for about 6 years since 2008. But this March, during school holidays, my family and I went to Perth, to visit my Aunt and also to travel. This is our first time to Australia. I can’t explain how excited I was when my mom asked me to book the flight tickets, and the moment I clicked “Confirm/Pay” (I couldn’t remember clearly what I clicked) my heart rose to the sky (?) HAHAHA I was too happy because finally we were going to Perth!

From Kuching to Perth, it takes around 5 hours, but should be lesser if we fly directly from KCH-PER. Anyway, I didn’t manage to take a clear photo of the Perth airport. SO NO PICTURE LOH. But I got pictures of me and my family lahhhh. :P

My father asked us to take a picture here but my sister was like: HUH?! Why need to take here? Very siasoi (embarassing) leh!!

Hello Perth! Morning~

Hello Perth! Morning~

We were picked up by my aunt and her husband to their house in Fremantle. I enjoyed the view outside even though there was nothing special. Because, you know, 外国的月亮比较圆,外国的风景也比较美 (the moon in a foreign country is always rounder, the view in a foreign country is always more beautiful). :P

Random road view I took on the way back to aunt's house. Blurred. :X

Taken with my Samsung Galaxy S3, love the outcome!!

We were so tired when we reached that morning due to the midnight flight we took. But that didn’t make us stay at home, except for my parents. The first place my aunt brought us was the South beach located just 10 minutes away from where we stayed. I must say this beach is so beautiful!!! The water is crystal clear, with gradient some more! And it has super soft sand, the kind that won’t hurt your feet! Not like the Damai Beach we have here OKAY!! TELL ME HOW CAN I NOT LOVE IT!? There is no need for further description on how beautiful the beach is, let my pictures speak!!

Before I end South Beach part, I need to say how miraculous it was when my sister told us she lost her glasses. At first, I was like: Must be when you jumped in the sea; and then I thought they can no longer be found. BUT! You know where I found it?! In the shallow part of the sea!!! WHY? Because the water is so clear that when I looked around I spotted them straight away!!! CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER ROCKS! XD

Later in the afternoon, aunt dropped us at Fremantle Market.

We went to the King’s Park at night, but didn’t manage to look around the whole park. Cox it was dark. We just parked our car somewhere near this slope of grass and played there. It was a little awkward cox we were the few who went as a family, most of the others were couples. Hugging, kissing etc. But since it’s a public place, we just played and laughed and felt sorry at the same time ><

Thoughts and Contradictions

Yes, my thoughts are.

Recently I am doing quite some research on my application to the UK, visa application, how to deal with JPA (Public Service Department of Malaysia) etc. I too, as other same-batch-scholar, am the first time experiencing all these.

So, the thing is this: there is this Facebook group I joined which gathers prospective ICL students and have discussions about any doubts regarding the school, the process or anything related. I read that quite a number of the group members have a lot of questions regarding the application.

Now, my thoughts: I couldn’t understand why they can’t read up the information from the ICL website, that are so useful and almost can answer all my doubts, I believe it would also apply to them. Frankly speaking, I believe almost everyone has an easy access to the Internet nowadays, and so it is super handy to search for information, from Google or from whatever sites. I sometimes feel a little absurd that MAYBE people don’t put in enough effort when they should, instead they rely on seniors and news from friends or friends of friends. It isn’t that hard to email any relevant department to find the answer to your questions, is it? But yet I don’t see many people doing it (of course I can’t see LOLOL).

Here comes the contradictions I give to my awful thoughts: First, what are these has got to do with me? I shouldn’t judge. Secondly, there are so many members in the group, and only a few of them constantly have questions (though some may have but they never ask). Obviously the main point of them posting questions is to find answers! How can I say that they do not put in effort when they actually bother to ask in the group. How can I say that when they bother to share information with the other members including me? How can I say so when some of the questions answered cleared my doubts? How can I say so when I can’t know if they are doing?

And I come to a conclusion: I am selfish. Because I do a lot of research myself and share my knowledge with other people I feel unbalanced inside me. I feel that what I got in return is much less. But I know I shouldn’t be thinking like this, I should help other people when I can, because I know one day I will need help from them. I am glad that I am now aware of my bad thoughts, so I can now be a better person, constantly reminding myself to be more helpful in life.

I want to tell myself:

I am sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

Because I am a human, a social creature, and cannot live on my own. I know I am lucky than most of the people in this world, and I am grateful. That is why I need to learn to give and take. To help and to be helped.

What a wordy post I have here. I am glad I grow a little wiser today! Hope you who read have a great day! :)

Happy Birthday, ellygram!

25/6/2014 | Wednesday | Hot and Sunny

It’s been ages since I last blogged.  HAHA super old-fashioned beginning, so I must strike it through. :P So, let’s do it again – Happy Birthday to my new blog “ellygram.wordpress.com”! 오늘 부터 1일 (Day 1)! Image

I am almost turning 20 this year so I thought I shall do something meaningful before I enter my Year 1 in Imperial College London. (I rot at home for the past 6 months ಠ_ಠ)

Over these 7 months after I graduated from the A Levels in Sunway College, I haven’t been doing much meaningful things/activities. And that makes me feel that my life is wasted. Time is like gold you know?! Especially the time when you are in your last teenage. *Sigh* time flies! It just felt like yesterday (OK lah exaggerated too much) when I had my SPM -> getting SPM results -> going to college for the A levels -> getting my AL results and now – waiting to enter university.

All of these are like dreams to me, so unbelievable yet so real! The fact that I secured a scholarship from our local Government to go to the UK for my tertiary education!! THIS MUST BE A DREAM!! BUT NO! It is real! All of these came in a sudden, unplanned. I never thought I would have taken up the A levels, never ever in my life before I got this Bursary KPM. The reason being is I was told that it is one of the hardest pre-U courses available on Earth and also I got an offer from a culinary school in Singapore. See? I planned to become a pastry chef, that’s why AL has never been one of my choices.

But life is unpredictable.

If not for some financial issues my family was facing, I wouldn’t have chosen this. I wouldn’t have the chance to go to ICL for my UG studies. I wouldn’t have met awesome people throughout my studies in Sunway. I wouldn’t have known much about Jesus Christ (though I am a Buddhist, but getting to know other religion isn’t a bad thing, right?). I wouldn’t have had a great time with my Korean Class friends and teachers. I wouldn’t have.. much more to go. Though it is true that what I experienced in KL and what I would have experienced in SG are different, but I got no regrets. I am thankful, blessed and loved.

To cut all my college journey short, I have now come to a point where all my applications are done, and the last thing to do is to attend JPA’s BTN and SAC camps, which I totally have no idea what they are for. Hence for now, what I should do is to be prepared for September to come, get packed and fly! ✈

There is no way to express how blessed I feel, to be able to receive all these free education from the Government. Sometimes I complain so much about the Government, no doubt in some parts they are doing really bad, but nonetheless I like them a bit cox I got a scholarship to go to London. HAHAHA (╯3╰)

For the last part of this blog post, I would like to tell myself why I name my blog like this. First of all, I decided on an English name for myself from my friend’s suggestion – Ellece (pronounce as “Alice“). But I don’t really like my name to be pronounced as Alice, I find it a bit 俗气 (tacky?). I didn’t mean to insult people who have the name Alice I just don’t like it to be my name, so I changed a bit to become Elly, which sounds much better to me. Like I feel that I’m more suitable for this name but I don’t know why. ヾ(@゜∇゜@)ノ

And why ellygram? I have no idea. I got this inspiration from a friend of mine. She #hashtag her instagram with her name-gram. So, I copy cat a bit from her. HEHEH ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

See you soon ellygram.wordpress.com! I shall visit you very often from now onwards. Muahx
